I have been been restoring fine furniture since 1982. With over 35 years experience in restoring all types of antique furniture from early oak and walnut to Georgian mahogany and the more exotic timbers such as rosewood and satinwood.

Whilst l deal mostly with mahogany furniture of the Georgian period designed by some of the greatest furniture designers such as Chippendale, Sheraton, Hepplewhite and Adam l also have a very good in depth knowledge of all the main periods of English furniture design from early oak to Regency and Victorian.

Over the last 35 years l have been pleased to assist with the restoration needs of leading antiques dealers in London and the provinces, with work exhibited at some of the worlds leading antique fairs such as Maastricht, Masterpiece and Olympia. I have worked for Sotheby’s auction house and can count the Royal Saudi Embassy, Commonwealth War Graves Commission, Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Bramshill Police College, and McLaren F1 amongst my many and varied clients.

During the restoration process my aim is to maintain the individuality and integrity of each item entrusted to me by preserving the original condition and patination.

I draw on a wide range of skills to undertake some of the most complicated restoration projects, such as: –

  • Marquetry repairs

  • Traditional veneering

  • Wood turning

  • Gilding

  • Carving

  • Copy chair making

  • French polishing

  • Wax finishing

  • Key cutting

You can be sure your furniture is in good hands and will be sympathetically cared for.

Case Study: 18th Century Dutch Marquetry Chest

This chest came to Surrey Antiques after the top was burnt by a fallen candle seriously damaging the marquetry inlay.

The top was carefully cleaned and detailed patterns taken of all the damaged timbers including extensive photographic records. All burnt timbers were removed and carefully selected veneers were matched from our large holdings of period and modern timber. The patterns were applied and the veneers hand cut using traditional techniques to re-form the central urn detail and surrounding flowers. Once glued in place they were stained and polished to match the original top and to give an almost invisible repair.

This was a very rewarding and satisfying restoration project that came to us from another restoration workshop that were unable to undertake a repair of this complicated nature, and provided Surrey Antiques with another very satisfied customer.
